Who is at risk?

For most people in the United States, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low. Those in a community where the virus has spread are at a relatively low risk. Those at an elevated risk include: healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19, those in close contact with a person with COVID-19, people with a weakened immune system and travelers returning from locations where community spread is occurring. According to the CDC, there is no evidence that children are more susceptible. In fact, most confirmed cases of COVID-19 have occurred in adults.
